“But what do I actually do in a coaching session?”

This is something I used to ask myself often (before I was trained and learned the answers), and it’s something a lot of coaches, new and experienced ask themselves (and me!)

Not knowing how to structure a powerful coaching session is something that holds a lot of people back. A lot of coaching business programs focus on the business building aspects and don’t even touch on the coaching aspect of things.

I’m going to share exactly how to structure your coaching sessions and give you a taste of what The Created Coach Method is!

Here are the steps you can follow to facilitate powerful coaching sessions with your clients.

Know where they’re at before the session.

To make the most efficient use of your time together it helps to know where your client is at before the session. If it’s your very first session it will give you a good starting point so you can get clear on what direction you’re going to take your coaching with them.

If you’ve already had sessions with them then it’s helpful to know what they worked on between sessions, what they struggled with, what they want to work on this session and anything else that will help you minimise the amount of chit chat so you can get right into the important work on the call.

Build rapport

Spend a few minutes at the beginning of the call building rapport with your client. Rapport is an NLP term used to describe the energetic experience people have when there is a sense of similarity or likeness between then (watch the YT video I made on rapport here)

It’s important that you have rapport with your clients so they are more likely to follow the suggestions you give them that will help them achieve their desired outcomes, which is the whole purpose of coaching.

Identify the challenges and problems they’re facing and not the symptoms or side effects.

Often when a client comes to you and is able to tell you why the problem is the problem, that’s not the core of the issue. There’s usually something deeper that’s causing the symptoms they’re describing.

For example, when a person has a cough the cough isn’t the sickness, it’s a symptom of something that’s causing it.

As coaches it’s our job to ask powerful questions to help our clients uncover the cause of their symptoms which could be a fear, doubt, worry, limiting beliefs, etc.

 Change work

This is where we will work through any NLP techniques, T.I.M.E. Techniques, EFT, prepare for hypnosis or any other modalities that are designed to cause a shift for our client (these are all taught in The Created Coach Method).

We have already uncovered the root of the problem and now we work on releasing it and creating change at the subconscious level, which is the only place sustainable change occurs.

Hold space for your client to be real and honest. It takes a lot for a person to take action towards creating change in their life.

 Create new possibilities

Now that you’ve helped your client release what’s been holding them back, so much more becomes available to them. It’s now time to support your client in dreaming big and really allowing themselves to create new and exciting possibilities for themselves.

This is another time where it’s important to listen and ask powerful questions.

Embodying success

Everything you’ve done together in your session comes together and now it’s time to set your client up for success.

This might look like creating new goals, creating an action plan, adding tasks into a project management board, etc.

It’s important that we cultivate a relationship of independence and not dependence. Our clients need to learn and understand that they are capable of achieving their dreams on their own and don’t become reliant on having someone do the work for them.

All of this (and so much more) is covered in detail in The Created Coach Method training. It’s going to give you the tools you need to create epic results with your clients. Click here to learn more about the program and begin your journey to becoming a certified coach.
